STAVI provides standard-compliant, fully nutritious school catering
Nutrition in meals for primary school pupils is now of particular concern to parents and teachers. At this age, essential nutrients not only help children develop physically and intellectually, but also provide the energy they need to learn and play. Therefore, applying a scientific nutrition plan in every meal is extremely important and lays the foundation for children's all-round development in the future.
With many years as a provider of primary school catering, STAVI, the industrial catering company, always understands and pays particular attention to the nutrition in each meal and its impact on children's health and development. So what does a standard nutrition plan for primary school meals include?
STAVI will share this with you in the article below; let's find out together.

The important nutrient groups in primary school meals
As we know, each food contains certain nutrients in different proportions, so daily meals need to be varied and combine many kinds of food (10 – 15 kinds) from the 4 main groups. The nutrients in these foods complement one another, and the nutritional value of the meal will perfectly match the body's needs. Primary school meals must fully include the following nutrient groups.
Carbohydrates (glucides)
Carbohydrates are usually found in starchy foods such as rice and rice-based products like rice vermicelli, rice cakes, pho… Starch is also found in foods such as corn, sweet potatoes and cassava. These are all foods in the cereal group that provide starch (for energy) and are also a good source of fibre. The primary school meals prepared by STAVI are always varied and contain all the necessary starches, meeting nutritional needs to the fullest so that children have plenty of energy for learning.

Protein
Protein is an important, indispensable component; it is a source of energy and helps the body function more actively. In the body, protein is responsible for building and regenerating all body tissues, and it makes metabolism and digestion easier. STAVI's primary school meals include protein-rich dishes made from animal sources (pork, beef, chicken, duck, Muscovy duck…), fish, sea fish, eggs, shrimp and crab, as well as plant-based foods such as beans, pulses, peanuts and sesame.

Lipids (fats)
Lipids, commonly known as fats, are a nutrient the body needs, and they can be obtained from both animal and plant sources. This component not only makes food more appetising but also provides high energy and helps the body absorb vitamins A, D, E and K – vitamins essential for the body's development.
In school meals, this nutrient is combined from many different food sources, such as oils and fats, including fatty meat, fish fat, butter, milk, milk cream, egg yolk… or vegetable oil, peanuts, sesame… With a team of professional chefs with many years of experience, we combine dishes harmoniously and with variety so that children enjoy their food, eat well and feel happier.

Vitamins and minerals
Vitamins are a group of organic substances present in the body in small amounts but with strong, specific effects. Vitamin deficiency causes many important metabolic disorders.
All vitamins are necessary for children's metabolism and development, especially vitamin A and vitamin C. STAVI always focuses on vitamin-rich foods such as meat, eggs, fish, shrimp, liver, heart, and so on. These are also foods that effectively supply minerals for the bones and other parts of the body.
A typical example is vitamin C, which is essential for blood formation and helps strengthen children's immune systems. The vitamin C requirement at this age is 55-60mg/day and must be met every day. Understanding this, STAVI's industrial catering for pupils always includes a full range of vegetables, root vegetables and fruit, prepared appropriately for each season.
In addition, the meal menu regularly includes foods such as shrimp, crab and fish to provide the minerals children need to develop fully.
Meals give priority to animal-based foods for children (meat, fish, shrimp, eggs…) to ensure the body gets enough iron. The iron in these foods is present in high amounts and is easily absorbed.

Diet for primary school children
Each age group is suited to a different nutrition plan. At primary school age, overfeeding children leads to overweight and obesity or other problems. This condition has shown signs of increasing in recent years, especially in large cities. Conversely, if children do not get enough nutrients, they will be stunted, often ill, anaemic or sleepy, dozing off in class, leading to poor performance and a loss of interest in learning.
The energy in a school lunch should meet 30-40% of the recommended daily energy requirement for each age group, and a snack should meet 5-10% of the energy requirement. Protein provides 13-20% of the energy in the diet, lipids provide 25-30% and carbohydrates provide 55-65%.
The energy and protein requirements at this age are shown in the following table:

Based on these requirements, STAVI's nutrition experts have developed a suitable nutrition plan to apply to each primary school meal.
